My Costa Del Sol Adventure

As the director of a car rental company you would think that I get to travel a lot. I wish!

In September 2011 I managed to find the time to have a family holiday, it’s been a while and as we have have a young family we decided to try out the Coasta Del Sol area, I’ve never been there before but my wife has so she was the perfect guide.

Normally we book into a hotel however this time we tried something different.  We rented a villa in the small modern port town of La Duquesa it’s a nice little place with enough bars and restaurants to enable you to try something different each night.

We also rented a Ford Fusion from Logan Car Hire, would be stupid not to, the pricing engine found us a great price from Centauro.

The Centauro rental desk is not at the airport but a 5 minute minibus journey, I have to say it was effortless. The met us at the arrivals area at Malaga Airport and pointed us in the direction of the mini-bus and 15 minutes later we are at Centauro’s office, paper work sorted, child seat picked out and we are ready to go. If I had one complained it would be that the child seat wasn’t fitted in advance. Our flight arrived in Malaga at about 11pm so trying to fit a strange child seat in the dark a bit of a hassle b ut we got it sorted and off we set.

The journey to La Duquesa took about one and a half hours from the rental desk, the rental desk was situated within two right turns of the motorway so no driving around trying to find the motorway. We used the toll road and I must say it was a pleasant drive.

After a few days hanging around La Duquesa we decided to make the most of the rented car and headed off to Gibraltar for the day, it was a bit of a drive and the queue to get through passport control  took about an hour in future I’ll be parking up and walking over.

Another place we visited a lot was Sabinillas which is just a lot the road from La Duqueasa. We had actually discovered a great little tapas bar called La Bodega which had a daily offer of 3 tapas plates and a beer for 6 euro’s, can’t complain at the price and the food was excellent. I actually wish I’d take a picture of the food but I was too busy eating it to take pictures.

So that’s my quick guide to the Costa Del Sol. We are actually heading back there in May so I suppose that says how much we liked it. I’m not a crowd finder and La Duquesa was the perfect mix of quiet areas and things to do and see.
